Abstract

The objective of this study was to evaluate the emotional intelligence of engineering students from the Forestry Sciences Division of the Autonomous University of Chapingo based on the Emotional Intelligence Profile, to locate those skills that need to be worked on with the purpose of promoting their comprehensive professional development. A quantitative diagnostic investigation was carried out with self-selected sampling, where 218 students out of a population of 332 voluntarily responded to an instrument sent by email. The results show that, of the eight components considered, optimism and social skill are located on a low scale. In global terms, 35% of the participants achieved high emotional intelligence, 42% average and 18% low, so they should be considered to design strategies that allow the development of EI that contributes to academic performance, well-being,and social balance.
