Function and political impact of social movements in the political system

Abstract

Social movements are associated with protest mainly against the government, however, we must establish their functions in the political system in order to recognize their impact on decision-making, leaving aside evaluations of victory and defeat. Recognizing that it is an autonomous political organization compared to other organizations with particular characteristics. To do this, the secondary research method is used, which consists of the review and analysis of the literature on the topic. For this, we rely on Niklas Luhmann, Charles Tilly and Alberto Melucci mainly in order to find unforeseen aspects about social movements.
