Determinants of stress, anxiety and depression: the effect of confinement in college students

Abstract

The article presents a non-experimental, cross-sectional, comparative and explanatory to identify the factors that determine the presence of academic stress, anxiety, and depression in students of the Faculty of Economics of the University Autonomous University of Nuevo León, in the context of Covid-19. The sample size is 350 students, 142 women and 208 men. A stress inventory and anxiety and depression scales from a personality assessment inventory were implemented. Means of main variables were compared and multiple linear regressionwas implemented. The fact of being new students was linked to greater symptoms of depression and lower presence of stressors. It was not found that the mode of starting the studies affected anxiety symptoms, however, socioeconomic variables were shown to affect the mental health indicators evaluated. It is expected that based on these results, future lines of attention and prevention of mental health conditions of students who manage their learning virtually.
