Abstract

This research intends to learn about the adult attachment styles and parental parenting styles experienced by young adults in Guanajuato through a descriptive approach, as well as to inquire about the permanence of young adults in the parental home. The Camir-R questionnaire was used to measure attachment styles and the CRPBI-A questionnaire was used to measure parenting styles. The sample size consists of 181 people. 27.1% of participants reported living outside of their parental home. 72.9% of participants reported still living in the parental home. Among the most important results, higher percentages of adult attachment styles were found in preoccupied attachment, fearful attachment, and avoidant-rejecting attachment. Regarding the parenting styles, higher percentages of an authoritarian parenting style of the mother and father were found in women. In conclusion, it should be noted that, parenting styles and attachment styles influence a young adult’s decision to leave the parental home.
