Globalization is a process that, from the beginning, poses an economic, political and social interaction, one of these scenarios has been reached with the twinning of cities. The objective of this research is to identify the determinants of the twinning of Chinese and Mexican cities through a qualitative, non-experimental approach with a cross-sectional design and with documentary analysis to collect data in books, scientific journals, newsletters and newspapers, using a SWOT analysis that focus on opportunities and threats. As a result, the lack of a determinant was found with the exception of the size of the local economy. As a conclusion, the existence of a potential in twinning is determined due to factors such as geographic location, connectivity and economic environment, however, it is necessary to increase the institutions that support these processes.
